Three Reasons Homes Don’t Always Sell in Winter
Selling a home at any time of the year can be a challenge depending on the property and the situation, yet many homeowners find that it is even more difficult to sell homes in the winter months. Here are a few of the reasons you might find it difficult to sell your home during this time of year.
School Session
Anyone who has school aged children is not likely to be looking to move during the winter months. Moving in January or February can cause children to have to switch schools in the middle of the semester, and most parents will not do that if it can be avoided. However, this limitation doesn’t apply to families with younger children or no children.
Post-Holiday Finances
Most people spend quite a bit of money in the months of November and December. Property taxes are due before the end of the year, as well as certain other expenses. People also spend quite a bit on the holidays for gifts, travel, and fancy meals. With all of these expenses, it is no wonder that home sales falter in January and February as potential buyers recover from the financial shock of December.
Down Payments
Coming up with a down payment for a home can be a challenge, and it takes most people at least a few years of saving before they are able to do so. Yet the most common time for people to buy a home is the same time that they are more likely to make other large purchases—at tax time. In January and February, everyone is getting their tax documents, and many people will not be looking to move until they get that refund.
If you are trying to sell your home this winter, do not be discouraged by these limitations. There are still people out there looking for homes in your area. For help with your home sale, contact us today for more information.
