Three Reasons to Hire a Real Estate Agent to Sell Your Home
When you embark on the journey of selling your home, there are several different paths that you can take. The two most common ways to sell a home is for sale by owner (FSBO) or through a real estate agent. While FSBO might seem to have some advantages, there are some very good reasons to hire a real estate agent.
More Money in Your Pocket
You might think that you are saving money by not paying a real estate agent, but in reality you could be losing money. A study done in 2017 found that homes represented by agents sold for 30 percent more than homes sold FSBO. Even when you factor in the commission for the real estate agent, you can see that you will easily come out ahead when you use an agent.
Paperwork and Details
There is a lot of paperwork and a lot of small details involved in selling a home. The purchase contract for a home can be as much as 10 pages, and that doesn’t include any federal, state, or local documents that may be required. In addition, there are little details like scheduling inspections, title insurance, and other small aspects of selling a home. Most homeowners are not overly familiar with these processes and how to accomplish them. A real estate agent will be able to handle all of this for you.
Excellent Negotiators
Real estate agents are master negotiators. If you have anything wrong with your home that you don’t want to fix before selling, or if you are wanting to get the most out of your property, you’ll want to have a good real estate agent on your side to negotiate the best possible deal. Real estate agents are also legally obligated to put your best interests first, so you know that any deal they come to you with will be a reasonable one.
